Paper Recycling – It Saves Trees and Makes Sense

One item which is routinely recycled in the United States is paper.  Which has been used and converted back into paper pulp and used to create recycled paper products such as copier paper, newspaper, toilet paper and tissue.  Approximately half of the paper used in the U.S. today is recycled, much of it coming from commercial business programs.

Recycling of  paper is not without its environmental issues.  The act of turning old paper into new paper pulp entails a lot of work and machinery found in large industrial plants.  While no one in their right mind would suggest that paper recycling is not necessary, it is a process which requires a significant amount of energy to complete.  It has to be transported to the plants, made back into pulp, and then new paper and corrugated supplies must be made.  The whole process requires fossil fuels and a significant amount of energy to complete.

Commercial recycling programs amount to about 80% of all paper recycled today.  Businesses of just about any size now have containers throughout their buildings for their employees to put their used paper into.  When visiting a business today you will often find a container for white paper and another for colored.  The different papers need to be separated for recycling .  Newspaper can also be recycled and requires its own container.

Once the containers are full they are generally hauled off by the local waste disposal company and taken to a plant for processing.

There are many ways that you, as an individual, can support the recycling process.  The easiest is to put your used paper into your kitchen garbage recycling containers.  From there you can dump them into your compost pile and they will break-down into soil, just as normal household kitchen garbage will.
Another way you can support recycling is to purchase recycled cards and recycled paper checks along with your recycled paper for your copier .
By using recycled paper products you are helping to support recycling in your area, and helping to eliminate trees being cut from the forests.

Next time you visit your local grocery market be sure to notice whether or not they are using recycled paper shopping bags.  If they are they make a nice change from using the usual plastic ones made from petroleum products.

When you shop be on the lookout for recycled paper products such as recycled toilet paper, recycled tissue and recycled paper towels.  By supporting the companies who make these products you are supporting paper recycling.

Metal Recycling ~ Aluminum Recycling

Metal Recycling ~ Aluminum Recycling

Benefits of Metal Recycling – Why Recycle Metal?
Aluminum Is the Best Metal Recycling Option Today..

Mining for metals cannot be maintained ad infinitum, consequently scrap metal recycling is a natural part of the chain of reuse. Metal recycling conserves natural resources, saves energy, contributes to the U S economy and bolsters U S trade balances. Aluminum metal recycling is a very important part of any family and community recycle program.  To recycle aluminum metal is one of the easiest things you can do to help the environment.  Recycling of this and other metals began long ago and started to become commonplace back in the early 1970s.  As an added bonus recycle centers will pay you for your cans, scrap aluminum and other recyclable metal as well.

Aluminum is 100% renewable.  This means that the can you take to your local recycle center today becomes a new can.  There are no waste products in the process making aluminum a 100% renewable resource and one of the best things you can recycle.  You might be surprised to know that within 60 days an aluminum can is able to go from your center and become a brand new can to be used by consumers.

There are many options open to you for your aluminum recycle needs.  In most areas you can take your items to your local recycle center, a community drop-off center, a reverse vending machine, curbside collection or charity collection sites.

Your local center, or community drop-off recycling center, will take all of your cans and scrap aluminum products and pay you for them by the pound.  Right now the price of aluminum is about $1.30 a pound, but varies by area and date.  For reference a large kitchen trash bag of cans, not compacted, will pay about $3.50 at the $1.30 per pound price.

Many areas have now installed reverse vending machines.  To use one you insert your cans into it and in return the machine pays you for them.   Locally our machines require your cans to be in their original shape, not compacted down, and you can feed them in one after another.  Once you have fed in all of your cans you push a button and get a credit receipt which can be cashed in or used at the local grocery stores where they are located.  The great thing about the reverse vending machines is that you can use them at any time of day or night.  They are very convenient and easy to use.

Here in the United States many places now offer curbside recycling.  The local waste management company, which picks up your regular garbage, will give you special recycling containers to put your aluminum recycling, paper recycling and plastic recycling items into.  On an agreed upon day of the week the local waste management company will come by and pick up all of your recycling items.  While they will not pay you for them, they do sell the materials and you see the result as a lower trash removal bill.

Community charity organizations sometimes place aluminum recycling containers out for you to put your extra aluminum cans in.  They then take the cans to your local recycling center and use the money for their charity. Metal Recycling ~ Aluminum Recycling

Recycling is by and large known as the procedure of obtaining new goods from the regeneration of used articles that resourcefully reduces factors like the use of fresh raw materials, energy consumption, various types of environmental pollution and creation of greenhouse gases,.No matter which option you choose, metal recycling is very important to both your family and your community.  Aluminum cans are one of the best items you can recycle because they are 100% renewable.

So in order to indoctrinate smart living in this fast depleting natural resource environment, metal recycling is important to our metal goods that helps save a lot of energy and a lot of other resources like water, reduces emissions of carbon dioxide like gases thus decreasing air pollution, increases the landfill space and also reduces the need to mine more and more raw materials at a faster rate thus helping in their conservation. Scrap Waste Material Recycling

ScrapMetalRecycling

Scrap Waste Material Recycling  is Big Business – and Growing!

Scrap waste material recycling is a growing category within the recycle industry.  Scrap and waste recycling commonly refers to the assembling, breaking up, sorting, and distributing of waste materials.  This includes automobiles, wastepaper, plastics, and iron and steel waste.

The U.S. generates an amazing 230 million tons of trash annually.  This number includes paper and cardboard, yard trimmings, metals and plastics, and other household waste.  In addition to collection, the scrap and waste materials industry operates the sorting services that help to reduce the amount of waste sent to local landfills. They also process all forms of waste for wholesale distribution.  This wide variety of materials including bags and bottles, fur cuttings, metal wastes and rubber.

Many companies in the business of waste recycling today use automation to make their jobs much easier.  Current automation technology is able to sort waste product into categories, even down to the type of plastic contained in a waste bottle.  By utilizing automation technology, waste material recycling is a growing business and is finding itself to be much more efficient in recovering and sorting waste materials for processing.

One major aspect of the waste material business is the recycling of wastepaper.  Wastepaper comes from newspaper, cardboard and typical office and copier papers.  This paper is baled by the scrap company and then taken to a paper recycling plant.  Once the wastepaper bales arrive at the paper recycle plant they are then converted back into paper pulp.  This paper pulp is then used to make corrugated supplies, such as boxes, and recycled paper and tissue products.  By purchasing recycled copier paper, recycled paper towels or recycled toilet paper, you are purchasing products made from recycled paper pulp.

Another aspect of waste recycling deals with scrap iron and steel.  Iron and steel companies collect the metal from junked cars, buildings and other metal industries.  This steel and iron is then processed to remove any toxic or hazardous waste materials and then finally sold to steel mills for their use.

Scrap plastic is another large sector in the waste material business.  Consumers in the U.S. use an amazing amount of plastic materials in day to day life.  Just about everything from toothbrushes to our vehicles contain plastic materials.  Plastic waste recycling takes these various forms of plastics and bales them and sells them for processing into new plastic. Recycling plastics is a growing business in the waste material business and is expected to continue to grow.

As you can clearly see, scrap water material recycling plays a very important part in the process of recycling and keeping materials out of our landfills.  This business is expected to grow and change with the purchasing habits of consumers.

Service and Charity Organizations Can Use Recycling
Services to Make Extra Money…

Service and charity organizations are always looking for new and unique ways to raise money.  Fundraising is a necessary evil of any organization as funds are always needed to do the work and keep it running.  One of the single best ways you can raise some cash is by holding a recycling drive.

Recycle it services are widely available in most areas of the U.S. today.  However, many households do not take advantage of the services which they offer.  Sometimes people just do not know these services exist, in other cases they just simply do not understand how they work.  By holding a recycle it drive your organization can accomplish three goals at once.  These goals are: helping the environment, teaching local community members about the services available in your area, and raising money for your group.  This makes a recycling drive a win-win-win situation!

To hold a recycling drive your group will need a few supplies.  The first of these supplies will be some flyers to announce your event.  You will want to let as many people in your community know about your event as possible.

One way to insure that the largest amount of people hear about your event is to print up flyers and ask each member of your organization to post them where ever they go within the community.

The best advertising you can have for your event is a notice in your local newspaper.  It is always worth a quick call to your local newspapers to see if they are willing to post an ad about your event for free or very low cost.  Some areas this is possible, and in other areas it isn’t.  However, you have nothing to loose by simply calling up your local newspaper publishers and asking.

After your advertising plan is in place, you will want to contact your local recycling center.  You need to find out what materials they will pay your organization for and how they would like to receive the materials.  (Tip:  Put this information on your flyers!)  You may be able to talk the center into donating all payments for a certain period of time to your organization.  This is nice because then you can ask people to go directly to the center at a certain time on a certain date.  This frees up members and does not require them to do a lot of hands-on work.

If you will need to collect the recycling materials on your own, then you will want to have some recycling containers readily available for your participants.  You will need a container specifically for aluminum cans.  (Tip:  Ask your community to crush their cans for you so they will take up less space.)  You will need recycling containers for plastics, glass, and paper as well.  Which containers you will need depends on what materials your local recycle center will accept, and their size depends on the size of your event.

By holding a recycle it drive your service or charity organization can raise some much needed money and keep recyclable materials out of your local landfill as well. Recycling Services | Recycling Center

Recycling Equipment

A Recycling Equipment Primer for Consumers…

You might be surprised to know that a lot of heavy machinery is used in your local recycling programs.  This recycling equipment is used to sort, compact and help to process your recycling materials into marketable bulk materials.  Let’s take a quick look at some of the most common recycling machinery used in recycling centers around the U.S.

They include:   One of the most common pieces of recycling equipment is the can crusher.  Aluminum is a wonderful metal to recycle because it is 100% renewable.  The can crusher helps to remove anything which the consumer may have stuffed into a can, and then crushes the cans down as small as possible for transport to an industrial aluminum recycling plant.  Often can crushers also wash the cans in the process!

Can Crusher:
Baler:  Another very common piece of recycling equipment is the baler.  Balers come in many sizes and types depending on what they will be used for.  Just as a hay baler turns hay from a field into bales of hay for farms, the recycling baler turns your used recyclable materials into bales of plastic and paper.  The size of the bale made depends on the baler used in the process.  These bales of plastic and paper are tied and then sold to scrap companies who cart them off to the industrial recycling plants for plastics and paper products. A handy little Can Crusher for Home and lite business use try Northern Industrial Tools Automatic Feed Can Crusher.

Conveyor:  Conveyors are commonly used in recycling.  They are used to move heavy bales and scrap metals from one area of the recycling center to another.

Sometimes they are used simply to take heavy items from consumers and dump them into a large recycling container, other times they are used to move the large bales from the baler into trucks or storage areas.

Shredder:  When we think of shredders we generally think of the small office models we all use to shred our unwanted personal or business papers.  Commercial shredders are big pieces of recycling equipment which are able to shred large amounts of paper all at one time.  The large paper and document shredders at your recycling center turn your unwanted paper into large bags of shredded material.  This material is then sent off industrial to paper recycling plants where it is converted back into paper pulp and new paper and corrugated supplies are made from it.

Solvent Recycling Equipment:  Another common piece of recycling equipment is used for solvent recycling.  This equipment generally uses a distillation process to turn harmful solvents back into water and useful components.

Tire Shredder:  Another popular piece of recycling equipment is the tire shredder.  This impressive machinery takes a tire and shreds it down into more manageable pieces of rubber.  This rubber is then used in things like road pavement and playgrounds.

As you can easily see there are many kinds of large equipment used in the recycling process.  See which ones you can spot on your next trip to your local recycling center!
